All four seasons offer their special quirks and wow factors as well as their drawbacks and downsides, and no matter which you choose, with a bit of planning the pros of each season often outweigh the cons.

The hard truth is that the season you choose might significantly impact your planning process, from venue availability and cost to weather and seasonal ambiance. It’s an important choice and one not to be overlooked. Let’s take a closer look at each gorgeous season and see which one speaks to you, your budget and your perfect day.

Spring: The blooming beauty

Spring has always been a popular time to tie the knot, and it’s easy to see why. With sunnier skies, pastel colour schemes and all the seasonal flowers to choose, from bouquets to backdrops, spring weddings make for a blooming great time to be outside. However even with warmer days and colourful bouquets, spring can also be unpredictable with its weather meaning if you planned an outdoor ceremony or reception, spring might literally rain on your parade.

Summer: The outdoor King

For couples with their hearts set on an open-air wedding, summer weddings are for you. Long hot days and vibrant colour schemes make for a festive and cheerful atmosphere, and who can deny the thought of their ceremony taking place on a perfect summer’s day in the shade of trees or right under a clear blue sky, it’s hard to deny. But just remember that those very same sunny days might prove to be too hot and humid for that outdoor wedding you were hoping for. Summer is also peak season for weddings, so if you’re dead set then make sure to book well in advance to ensure your dream venue or suppliers have not been.

Autumn: The colourful Queen

Autumn weddings are often overlooked but they have a lot more going for them than you might expect. With cool and crisp weather, rich vibrant colours and dazzling natural foliage, autumn’s supposed downsides might just be its biggest boons. Autumn provides heaps of creative opportunities for decor and photography with its changing leaves and golden light, it’s also perfect for both outdoor and indoor celebrations if you plan your day just right. However, just like spring, autumn weather can be a gamble with potential chilly or rainy days, and just like summer the lingering peak season might mean higher prices.

Winter: The cosy cuddler

Who can deny the fireside romance of winter weddings? We can’t. With the chance of a breath-taking white wedding, winter-warming mulled wine and evergreen themes, winter is perfect for couples who want a more intimate affair. Lower demand for venues and suppliers alike also help you to stretch your budget further. The only real downside is the cold or potential rain preventing outdoor photography, in saying that some of our favourite images have been taken in the rain and snow with dramatic clouds and dreamy backdrops. If you’re looking for a cosy wedding and all your loved ones ending the day together next to the fire then winter is absolutely the season for you.

In short, the best time for any couple to get married depends on your personal taste and what you hope to get from your wedding. Each season is stunning in its own way so plan according to your preferences and you should be in for the perfect day.
