If you want to arrive at your wedding on time, you have a variety of cool, comfortable or quirky options to choose from. It’s as much about your style as it is about choice, and we’re here to help you make that decision.
In this article, we discuss different ways of arriving at your wedding venue, the pros and cons of being leftfield and the importance of your guests in your transportation plan. So, without further ado, let’s talk transport!
Practicalities
Okay, before we let our imagination get away with itself, let’s cover the practical bases first. Your choice of wedding transport has to deliver several key elements. It has to get you to your wedding comfortably, safely and most importantly, clean and dry. As long as your mode of transport can guarantee those things, the rest is up to you.
The main considerations you need to make are; time of year, distance you need to cover, number of occupants, the route, time of day, day of the week and of course, the great British weather. Your transport company will cover many of the details, but it’s important to have them in the back of your mind when choosing.
Guests may also need transport to get from your wedding ceremony to the reception if they are in different places. Some might not know the area and some may not be able to drive. For relatively little money, you can arrange for taxis or a minibus to ferry your guests about. It saves them worrying about getting lost and makes sure everyone is where they should be at the time they should be there.
So now the boring bits are out of the way, let’s have some fun!
Great ways to arrive on time
For many years, the only way to arrive at a wedding was either in a horse and carriage, or in a vintage limousine. Those are still romantic and viable options, but they are not the only ones.
We have seen married couples arrive at our reception venues on motorcycles, by double decker bus, on horseback, on foot, in a fire engine, pink Cadillac and even on a tandem. While some are obviously more practical than others, it’s your wedding, have it your way.
You can also hire stretch Minis, classic sports cars, pink taxis, helicopters, convertible Volkswagen Beetles, VW campers and all sorts of vehicles. If you can think of arriving at a wedding safely in it, someone will hire it.
The more outrageous your wedding transport ideas, the more you have to think about their suitability. Bicycles are becoming exceptionally popular, but they only work with certain types of wedding outfits. They are also susceptible to weather and traffic, so won’t always be suitable. However, if you can make them work for you, they are a great way to arrive at your wedding!
The same can be said for classic cars. They are not the most practical vehicles in the world, but they do make a statement. Vintage or BoHo weddings are lapping up the classic VWs as they fit the theme perfectly. The same for tandems or double decker buses.
Don’t forget the traditional
With all of these new and cool ways to arrive at your wedding, it’s easy to forget the traditional ways of doing things. There’s good reasons why a horse and carriage or vintage Rolls Royce have been in vogue for so long. Because they work on every level.
They are romantic, a once in a lifetime experience, they offer comfort, style, can adapt to weather and offer the kind of entrance we all dream of. So while we would definitely encourage you to explore all your options, don’t forget the tried and tested.
Selecting your wedding transport is a personal thing that is as much about you as a couple as it is about your wedding theme. Choose carefully, ask for advice, but most of all have fun with it!
